Remember the Mainz (-|RtM|-) began as a 'dumb idea' of Velvet Fog's. One day while playing with former member Pimpy and current member Grendel, they came up with the ridiculous idea of attempting to compete in the DoD CPL tournament which was to be taking place in 2002. However due to the location of the event and relative position of possible interested participants the idea went no where fast, much like the DoD event at the CPL that year due to limited interest.

What spawned instead was an idea to get together this same group of people and throw their hats into the clan play world of DoD. So invites were sent out to a number of players who had been playing with and against each other for a couple of months in the relatively new tournament (now defunct), Battle For Europe.

The name Remember the Mainz itself is derived from that tournament. The very first battle was fought on dod_mainz and at the time it was a battle of legend (few if any involved in the tournament now even know of it anymore). At the same time a member of RtM, Band of Sisters (BoS), decided that he wished to create a custom map community and thus a community forum and server came into the fold of the group. In the end the clan and server aspect of this group never really went very far. However, the forums have remained as a place where these people of varying backgrounds, age, and views have come together as friends to share their lives with each other.
